President & CEO, Museum of Cycladic Art

Sandra Marinopoulou

Sandra Marinopoulou was born in Athens, Greece.

Sandra graduated from the American College of Greece holding a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. She then launched a niche advertising agency, specializing in infomercials and communication.

In 2008, Sandra succeeded her aunt Dolly Goulandris, the founder of the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, and became President of the Museum’s Board of Trustees. The Museum of Cycladic Art is dedicated to the study and promotion of the ancient civilizations that flourished in the Aegean, with special emphasis on Cycladic Art of the third millennium BC.

Upon her appointment in 2007, Sandra initiated, alongside the Museum’s regular archaeological exhibitions program, a permanent Contemporary Art Program with a commitment for annual exhibitions in dialogue with Cycladic and ancient Greek culture. The goal was to demonstrate that ancient Greek art was, and still is, a source of great inspiration for modern and contemporary artists. Her aim has always been to familiarize both local and international audiences with the way that important twentieth and twenty-first century artists were influenced by Greek Antiquity.

Her main goals have been to enhance the Museum’s worldwide recognition of Cycladic Art, to develop international partnerships, to reach younger audiences, to inspire through exhibitions that embrace humanity across history and to establish the Museum of Cycladic Art as a dynamic link between the past and the present revealing the astounding ways in which the one influences the other.

Commemorating its 40th anniversary in 2026, the Museum of Cycladic Art has already embarked on a new chapter in its history since 2024: a ‘Transformation’ that will renew both its physical presence and its operational model, creating a cultural and architectural landmark for Athens. The new Museum of Cycladic Art is set to be completed in 2027.

Since 2025, Sandra has become a member of the Board of Directors of the Cy Twombly Foundation.
